A growing share of the populations in European countries is migrants and their children. Many of these are recently arrived refugees and asylum-seekers who have escaped violent conflict, others are trafficked for exploitation or failed asylum-seekers and have little access to health and other protective frameworks. Others may have a longer history in the receiving countries or be part of the indigenous population but current generations may nevertheless be structurally disadvantaged in a way that affects their health.

Levels of poverty and poor health have clearly been increasing among immigrants in the Nordic countries and demands greater attention. This conference illuminates the structural factors of such inequities in relation to migration and ethnicity and considers policy as well as the role that local programmes of health may play. The conference is targeting Nordic and Baltic health workers at the local and regional level.
