Background
Recent research finidings have produced much new knowledge on new types of risk factors and conditions, which are able to increase cardiovascular morbidity. For prevention and management of this major burden of morbidity both the proximal and distant causes as well as the causes of causes need to be recognized.
The general knowledge on prevention of CVDs had grown substantially and new possibbilities through several different stragtegies (at primary, secondary and tertiary levels of prevention) are available. So far these possibilities have, for several reasons, been underutilized and need to be given more attention.
